Company Also Announces First Shipments Of New High Capacity CompactFlash And
SmartMedia Flash Memory Cards To Retail Outlets

HANNOVER, GERMANY, March 21, 2001-SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) announced today its new Secure Digital (SD) flash memory cards will start shipping to retail outlets in May and its new high capacity CompactFlash™ (CF™) and SmartMedia flash cards will be available in retail outlets in the second quarter of this year. The announcement was made at the CeBit trade show where SanDisk is demonstrating products at the Hannover Convention Center in Hall 12, Stand 84.

The SD cards, which will be used in cell phones, MP3 players, handheld computers and other small-sized mobile electronic devices, will initially be available in 16 and 32 megabyte (MB) capacities. The SanDisk cards will be available in retail stores just as numerous new consumer electronics devices that use the cards go on sale around the world. The year-old SD Association, which already has more than 225 member companies, reports that more than 50 products with slots for SD cards already have been introduced.

SanDisk's recently announced CF cards will be available in 256, 384 and 512MB capacities while the 128MB SmartMedia card also will be added to the product line. SanDisk flash memory cards and card readers are sold in more than 20,000 retail outlets around the world including Best Buy, Circuit City, Conrad, Dixon's, Expert, FNAC, Jessops, MediaMart, Office Depot, OfficeMAX, Ringfoto, Sears, Staples, Target, T-Zone, Wal-Mart and Yodobashi.

Rick Dyer, SanDisk vice president of retail sales, said, "In the next several quarters, we expect consumer after-market sales of our SD cards to grow because new SD-based products, including the Palm m500 and m505 handheld computers introduced earlier this week, are expected to enter the market at an accelerating pace. Consumers who have digital cameras with two to four mega-pixel resolution should also find our high capacity CF and SmartMedia cards to be competitively priced and especially attractive for capturing literally hundreds of high quality digital images or movie clips."

SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology.
